Comment from Jill O'Neill on event planning and wifi
Sent to Greg and read with permission - "I made a point this morning of listening to last night's Uncontrolled Vocabulary about Computers in Libraries. It was really quite interesting. But I did want to make a point of saying something about wi-fi as a meeting organizer myself.
Hotels are turning to third party organizations as service providers for wi-fi at conferences. This means the pricing in most hotels for wi-fi makes it prohibitive in terms of costs to conference providers. It's not treated as part of the general meeting packages that hotels offer.
That doesn't excuse us (meaning meeting planners) from trying to offer it where possible, but this is very much something still in transition. As those on the call noted, CiL deserves credit for offering it, even imperfectly, because I know it must have cost them thousands of dollars."
